Projects: Adopting the Banners Module
Fixes
One of the things that has always annoyed me about the Banners module was that if you entered a banner, but didn’t provide a URL, the system still generated a click-able banner. While it makes sense that most people using the module want to track actions on the ads, not everyone will be using it that way. So, we added a little bit of logic to the display, and now if there’s no URL you just get an image.
New Features
In addition to fixing the No URL issue, we decided we didn’t like the random nature of the banner display. After several reloads of the home page, we were rarely seeing one of the 4 banners created, so we set out to DynamicDrive.com and picked out a few slide show scripts, and created a couple of new display blocks that rotate through the images. This gives the Banners module new life, and usefulness outside of advertising even.
Release
Right now there’s no firm plan on when to release the module. As it is, it’s still got several areas hard coded to our needs on the project we’re working on, so there’s some configuration features to be worked out. Hopefully we’ll have a project set up at the Cozi soon and will be able to involve others in the work and get it done soon.
